Life, Truth, & The Way ~ Watts Chapel, Compton, England

The Watts Cemetery Chapel
of Compton, England
is one of the most special places
I have ever visited...

Designed by Mary Seaton Watts
and consecrated in 1898
this funeral chapel is a celebration of life,
love, and resurrection...

"Mary was the artistic force behind the creation of Watts Cemetery Chapel and she dedicated it ‘to the loving memory of all who find rest near its walls, and for the comfort and help of those to whom the sorrow of separation remains’ (Mary Watts, Word in the Pattern, p. 3)."

Twelve angels surround the chapel
holding a message for the pilgrim who climbs
the hill to visit...

The Life...

The Truth...

and the Way...

beckoning you to enter...

Lovingly crafted by the town artisans
with clay from the area...

And down the hill
is a pilgrim's cross,
a marker along the way to Canterbury...

and as a memorial to Mary Seaton Watt's husband
George Fredrick Watts.

To step upon this pilgrim's path...
and open to the beauty of this place
is forever a treasure in my heart...
